KOLKATA: Dissident Trinamool Congress MP Somen Mitra has fired yet another salvo at the party by seeking a CBI probe into the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for 2012, conducted by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) on March 31, 2013.

Mitra, in a letter written to Union minister of human resource development MM Pallam Raju on Monday, has claimed that there were several irregularities in the process.

"The TET was conducted without following National Council for Teachers' Education (NCTE) rules, notifications and guidelines. The examination had 40 lakh applicants throughout the state and there were 35,000 vacancies for the recruitment of primary teachers in West Bengal. On the day of examination, there was complete chaos throughout the state and arrangements were so bad that many students could not even reach their examination centres," Mitra stated in his letter.

The MP from Diamond Harbour constituency further claimed that the question paper didn't follow NCTE guidelines. Several writ petitions have been filed in the Calcutta high court on this matter. After results were published, it was found that only 1.7% have passed the TET examination.

"We have gathered from different sources that recommendations are being made by state leaders of the Trinamool Congress and TET Pass Panel has been prepared under the influence of leaders of the ruling party. We have also learnt from various sources that the NCTE has also admitted in its report that TET authority hasn't followed its guidelines," the MP added in his letter.

He further alleged that MPs, MLAs of the ruling party in West Bengal have manipulated the TET examination selection list in lieu of 'huge financial transactions'.

"In view of the above, may I request you to have an impartial investigation into the matter by proper authority like the CBI," Mitra prayed to the Union minister.

This is not the first time that Mitra has crossed swords with the Trinamool leadership. A couple of days ago, he sided with the Congress openly and indicated that he was planning to quit the Trinamool soon.
