BHOPAL: Widening its crackdown on corruption Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta police on Tuesday carried out simultaneous searches at residential and official premises of joint director industries department — R C Kuril — and found assets worth crores disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Posted at Bhopal, Kuril, 54, had been on key positions in state commerce, industries and employment department in last 10 years.
Documents found during the raids revealed that he owned several acres of land around Jabalpur and Sagar districts, besides a coca-cola filling unit at Jabalpur, two flats, three farm houses and shops in both districts. Sum of Rs 3 lakhs was recovered in cash from his house at Adhartal area in Jabalpur besides gold and silver ornaments worth 4 lakhs.
Bhopal wing of the Lokayukta's special police establishment (SPE) carried out searches early in the morning in two cities, but main focus was on his house at Jabalpur in the posh Caravs complex.
During raids at his government accommodation at Bhopal, officials recovered several incriminating documents besides details of his investments in insurance policies and shares. Keys of bank lockers were also found, said sources.
Kuril had coca-cola's distributorship and its filling plant in the name of his brother Dinesh. "The filling unit was set up on land leased out from industries department. It's also a case of misuse of official position," says SPE's inspector Naveen Awasthi, who was in team that raided Jabalpur house.
"Further investigations are on," Bhopal Lokayukta SP Siddhartha Chaudhary , without disclosing the details.
Sources said Kuril was on the radar of the Lokayukta police ever since he was posted as joint director. He had spent crores of rupees in his daughter's wedding. She was married in the family of a top BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh. Kuril's daughter told Lokayukta police that her father-in-law is former Uttar Pradesh MLA Omprakash Paswan while her brother-in-law Kamlesh Paswan, is 38 years old Loksabha MP, elected from Bansgaon constituency in UP's Gorakhpur district.
When contacted Kamlesh Paswan confirmed his relationship with Kuril. "I don't think he (Kuril) has earned that much. He must have fell victim to some conspiracy within the family," Paswan told Times of India over phone. He had defeated his rival by more than 2 lakh votes this Loksabha election.
This was the second major raid in the state post Loksabha polls. On Thursday Lokayukta police had carried out simultaneous searches at several residences and premises of IPS officer Mayank Jain, and found assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, sources said.
Documents found during the raids revealed that he owned 50 acre of land, two nursing homes and eight houses located across Bhopal, Indore and Rewa.
