UP: Etawah gang-rape victim dies of burn injuries

KANPUR: The 22-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped and set ablaze by her boyfriend and his five aides in Etawah's Desarmau village under the limits of Ekdil police station, died during treatment at UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Saifai.

The girl, who was admitted at UP Rural Institute Of Medical Sciences and Research in Saifai in Etawah on July 10 morning with 98 per cent burns, breathed her last at around 12.15am on Friday.

"The girl's condition started deteriorating in the late evening hours of Thursday and she passed away at around 12.15am on Friday," the UPRIMS&R sources said.

The main accused, Farman, was arrested on July 13 for sexually assaulting and later setting ablaze his 22-year-old girlfriend on July 10. He was sent to judicial custody. The other six accused are on the run. A magisterial probe has already been ordered into the incident.
