BHOPAL: A major possible mishap was averted after engine of 2433/Chennai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express derailed at Vidisha district in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday morning after a herd of cattle's strayed on railway track.

While 50 cattle's were mowed to death, commuters onboard train escaped unhurt, said sources.

"Timely response by the railway engine personnel averted mishap, derailed near Karondia village level-crossing between Sanchi- Salamatpur stations on at 10 AM," said an official.

"On noticing the herd on track, the driver immediately applied emergency brakes," he said.

The train, running at a speed of around 80 kmph at the time of the incident, was deftly brought under control and stopped quickly by the motorman within a short distance.

Engine suffered major damage and derailed as its wheels got entangled with the carcass of the cattle.

The train, which was already running late by 7 hours, was left standard for another three hours after the incident.
