The tremors took place in the 5km radius, at 10.48 am and is said to have lasted for 6 seconds. No reports of damage to human life and property has been reported yet. Some people came out of their home in panic, said sources.
The magnitude was 2.8 on the richter scale.
This is the second time that earthquake was felt in western region of Madhya Pradesh this year. On May 21, tremors were felt in Jabalpur and Mandla districts.
Similarly, a light earthquake struck Jabalpur and the adjoining parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh on October 16, 2000 and was felt in many parts of the region resulting in minor damage.
Earthquake was felt strongly in the districts of Jabalpur, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, Chhindwara, and Narsinghpur. No casualties were caused by this earthquake.
It was the strongest earthquake in this region since the Jabalpur earthquake on May 22, 1997 that killed at least 38 people and injured over a thousand.
