NEW DELHI: Without disputing his meetings with private persons accused in CBI cases at his official residence, CBI director Ranjit Sinha is likely to inform the Supreme Court that he has "not favoured any of them". The CBI chief is likely to file his response to the apex court on Friday.

The director's reply will be on the allegations leveled against him by an NGO that he met some people and representatives of companies, named in the 2G spectrum scam. Caught in a fix over his meetings, the agency chief, sources said, has been consulting his lawyer Vikas Singh to prepare his reply on the charges brought out by Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), represented by advocate Prashant Bhushan. Citing Sinha's meetings, Bhushan alleged that these were attempts to scuttle the 2G probe.

Sources said Sinha will not deny the meetings with private persons in his affidavit. But he is expected to give details of internal file notings of all the CBI officers in the 2G case to prove his point that he had not favoured any company or individual, said a source.

Bhushan had sought from SC an order directing Sinha to recuse himself from the 2G case on the ground that he had allegedly attempted to save former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran in Aircel-Maxis case.

Another NGO, Common Cause, also represented by Bhushan, has also sought Sinha's removal from the coal scam. The apex court has sought Sinha's response in coal scam by September 19.

The Supreme Court has termed the allegations against the CBI chief as "very serious" on the basis of visitors' register of his 2 Jan Path residence.

Sinha has claimed that he is being targeted at the behest of some powerful persons.

Meanwhile, Sinha is also conducting an internal probe to look for the person (s) within the agency, among Delhi Police and ITBP officers and even private persons who could have leaked the visitors' register to Bhushan.
