A source in CR said that trains were running ten minutes behind schedule while passengers, especially office-goers, complained trains were delayed by 20 minutes.
Commuters also said that a few trains were cancelled on the Harbour line. There were announcements made at some stations about trains running behind schedule due to rains, a commuter said.
A CR official, while admitting the delay in train service, said it was just five to ten minutes behind schedule. "This is routine during monsoon and the services will return back to normalcy soon," he added.
There is a signal problem at Wadala, Chembur. Parel and Dadar stations and this has hit services during the morning peak hours on Central and Harbour lines.
CR spokesperson A K Singh said, "The suburban train services have been affected due to signal problem at two stations each on Central and Harbour lines. As a result, there is a delay and this is mainly due to heavy rains. Passengers may get trains five to ten minutes behind schedule."
Sources said that the signal problem was due to water logging on tracks. Commuters complained of platforms being crowded and many were unable to get into trains. "I have been waiting for a train at Bhandup station. However, with trains from Thane, Kalyan and beyong arriving packed with commuters, I had to miss a couple of trains. I will be late for work today," said Binu S, an office-goer. Another commuter said that a few train coaches were unclean and some of the doors were jammed too.
