Two women, a minor raped in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: Soon after a series of rape incidents in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh too was rocked with rape cases in last two days. A 16-year-old girl was gang-raped in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district when she was waiting for her friend at a bus stand on Friday.

Police have arrested the three accused who forcefully took her to a nearby tourist place called Ranidah and kept her in confinement and repeatedly raped her, taking turns.

The minor girl who studies at a school in Korba was in Jashpur to attend a relative's wedding and was scheduled to return on Friday when the incident took place.

According to police, the three youths raped her and forced her to consume liquor at a hotel. Later, they had dropped her back at the bus stand in an inebriated condition. When locals noticed the girl, they informed police and the matter came to the fore.

Police have arrested Shubh Nayak, Sandeep Nayak and Gopi Nayak on charges of rape.

In another incident, a middle-aged woman living alone at Kusmi village of Ambikapur district was dragged out of her home late on Thursday by three youths. Police said that the accused knocked at the woman's door late at night and when the woman didn't open the door, they broke it open and took her to an isolated place where they gang-raped her.

One accused was arrested on Friday while other two were at large.

Similarly a woman in Ambikapur was raped by a quack when she went to see the culprit with regard to the treatment of her six-month-old baby. On pretext of doing 'jhaad-phoonk' on the newborn, the healer raped her, saying that it was because of the impact of some spirits on the mother that the baby fell frequently ill.

When the woman complained about the incident to the village panchayat, she was asked to complain to the police.

The accused is on the run.
