MUMBAI: Train services resumed on the affected stretch on Konkan railway 20 hours after authorities cleared the derailed wagons from the tunnel located between Ukshi and Sangameshwar station on Tuesday.

Konkan Railway spokesperson said, "All 5 wagons were removed from the tunnel at 04.40am and damaged sleepers were also replaced. Train services resumed soon after track fitness certification was received at 6.50am."

Railways had to cancel four services and divert as many as 10 services after the derailment which occurred on April 14 at around 8.15am. The stretch was closed for traffic for almost 22 hours. During this period, services were diverted via Pune, Londha, Miraj and Panvel.

It took time to clear the wagons as the crane could not be taken inside the tunnel.
