NASHIK: A 63-year-old farmer from Pingalwadi in Satana tehsil of the district allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a pond owing to mounting debts after the recent hailstorm wiped out his agriculture crop, police said on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Chhabu Mohan Bhamre, took this extreme step yesterday, police said adding that his debts ran upto Rs 9 lakh.
Bhamre's crop of pomegranates and grapes had got completely wiped out in last month's hailstorm.
According to police, this is the third suicide committed by a farmer from Satana tehsil.
