He will be taking on against BJP general secretary and five-time MP HN Ananth Kumar.
Nandan was accompanied by his wife Rohini, transport minister Ramalinga Reddy and Congress MLAs M Krishnappa and RV Devaraj.
Nandan filed nominations at BBMP Bangalore South office at 12.40pm, just 40 minutes after beating 'rahukala' (considered as inauspicious time) and submitted papers to returning officer KV Trilok Chandra.
On Fridays, 'rahukala' is between 10.30am to 12 noon.
He entered BBMP office at 12.15 pm and had to wait till an independent candidate completed the formalities.
With more than 22 lakh voters in Bangalore South contest between Nandan and Kumar is interestingly poised as the constituency is cosmopolitan in nature.
War of words have already begun between Kumar and Nandan, with the BJP leader maintaining that the Congress candidate is just 18 days old to the constituency while he has been here for the last 18 years. Hitting back, Nandan said that it's not the time of presence, but the achievements made by Kumar which was zero in the constituency.
Kumar has already announced that he will have a relook at the Aadhaar programme if NDA comes to power.
