The policemen — sub-inspector Jhandu Mal and constables Deepak Kumar, Ompal Singh and Akhil Verma — have been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the escaping of Robin alias Ravi yesterday, deputy SP of Railway Police Rajan Tyagi said today.
Police was bringing Robin from Bareilly Central Jail to a court here for hearing of a case registered against him under the Gangster Act, Tyagi said.
But as the train slowed near Moradabad railway station, he escaped.
A case has been registered against Robin and the four policemen who were escorting him.
As the police flashed the news of the incident, security checks were carried out all over the western Uttar Pradesh.
Police teams have been sent to Robin's hometown Madhubani in Bihar, Ghaziabad (from where he was arrested) and here to trace him, Tyagi said.
Six accused, including Robin, were awarded life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Revati Singh, wife of BJP leader Hukum Singh, in 2012.
They are also facing trial under the Gangster Act in a court here.
Meanwhile, when the accused were not produced in the court here, the judge deferred the hearing upto April 24.
