CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu election department officials on Friday denied permission to Aam Aadmi Party representatives to attend an all-party meeting held at the state secretariat on the ground that it is 'not a recognized party.'

The meeting convened by chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar was to discuss the model code of conduct to be observed by the political parties for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. It saw the participation of representatives of nine state and national parties, including the AIADMK, the DMK, the Congress and the BJP.

There was a mild flutter when AAP volunteers Khaja Mohideen and Shafee, who turned up at the venue at 12.30pm, one hour behind the schedule, was asked to leave immediately.

"They told us to leave at once saying that we are not a recognized party," Mohideen told TOI.

"We want to contest in all the constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. If we don't know the model code of conduct, how will we follow it," he said, recalling the FIR filed against party leader Arvind Kejriwal in Gujarat for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
