AIADMK agrees to back CPM for one seat for Rajya Sabha poll

CHENNAI: The state unit of the Communist party of India (CPM) has renominated its Rajya Sabha member T K Rangarajan for the polls to six seats in the the upper house in Tamil Nadu. The announcement came shortly after the AIADMK issued a press release, announcing its candidates for four seats and assuring support for a CPM nominee for one seat.

Thanking the ruling AIADMK for its support, CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan said the state committee has decided to nominate Rangarajan. He also thanked other alliance parties, including the CPI and the Forward Black for their support.

While reacting to a question on whether his party would align with the AIADMK in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, he said the left party was agreeable for such an alliance. But there was no discussion on LS polls during his meeting with Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa recently, he said.

A team of CPM leaders had called on Jayalalithaa on Tuesday at her Kodanad retreat in the Nilgiris and sought support for a party nominee for RS. TK Rangarajan will file his nomination on January 27.
