China rejects US human trafficking criticism as 'arbitrary'

BEIJING: China on Thursday rejected a US report that downgraded Beijing for failing to make greater efforts to combat human trafficking.

"We believe that the US side should take an objective and impartial view of China's efforts (in fighting human trafficking) and stop making unilateral or arbitrary judgements of China," foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular briefing.

An annual US State Department report on Wednesday cited Russia and China among the world's worst offenders in fighting forced labor and sex trafficking, which could lead to US sanctions.
