1828 PPS officers transferred in UP in last 2 years, 263 orders modified

LUCKNOW: A total of 1828 officers of the Provincial Police Service (PPS) got transferred in Uttar Pradesh in a short period of 2 years in 2011 and 2012. This includes 478 officers of additional SP (ASP) rank and 1350 Deputy SPs. As per the information obtained by Lucknow based RTI activist Dr Nutan Thakur, 307 ASP rank officers got transferred in 2011 while 171 were transferred in 2011. 892 deputy SP rank officers were transferred in 2012 and 458 in 2011.

As per the 723 page information dated April 4, 2013 sent by RenukaMishra, IG (establishment) to Thakur, in 263 cases the state government either cancelled or modified its own previous order. 21 orders of ASP were cancelled while 36 were modified. Among Deputy SPs, 74 orders were cancelled while 132 modified.

As per the RTI, on four occasions more than a hundred PPS officers got transferred through one single government order. In three other cases, more than 50 PPS officers got transferred through single orders.

After Akhilesh Yadav became the chief minister, 120 ASPs were transferred on March,27 2012 while 153 Deputy SPs were transferred on April 1, 110 on April 7 and 121 on October 16. In Mayawati's regime 97 ASP were transferred through an order passed on April 9 2011 and 82 Deputy SP through an order dated August 8.

These police officers were much relaxed during the Assembly elections and no PPS officer was transferred between December 24 2011 and March 17, 2012.

The first PPS transfers after change of government were that of B P Ashok from ASP Meerut City to RTC Chunar and Vijay Yadav from RTC Chunar to DGP Office.
