CHENNAI: Blaming the US for tabling a 'weak' resolution against Sri Lanka, advocates took out a protest rally and burned down flags of Sri Lanka and the US here today.

Advocates affiliated to the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) and Women Lawyers Association (WLA) took out a protest march at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) here.

They were, however, stopped by the police near the RBI subway on beach road. Enraged at being stopped short of their picket point, the agitators burned down the flags of the two countries.

Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai and the areas surrounding the high court, had been witnessing a series of agitations days ahead of the tabling of the resolution at the UNHRC.

While most parts of the state had not witnessed any rally or protests on Friday, as the resolution was adopted on Thursday, the areas around the court continue to experience agitations and traffic snarls.
