INDORE: Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in Indore on Sunday those who want to draw Laxman Rekha for women should stay within their Laxman Rekha. He was reacting to the statement of Madhya Pradesh industry minister Kailash Vijaywargia's statement suggesting women should remain within 'Laxman Rekha'.
Terming Vijaywargia's statement ridiculous, Scindia said, "It's strange that in today's scenario--when we are talking about women empowerment, where women are contributing to the development of the country--he is speaking about Laxman Rekha".
"How can we move forward with this sort of mentality," question Scindia adding it is our responsibility to provide safe environment to women and children in the country, rather than drawing the Laxman Rekha for them.
"In fact those who want to draw these Laxman Rekha should remain within their limits," Scindia said.
Vijaywargia had recently said that just like Sita was abducted by Ravan, a women will be attacked if she crosses her limits. His comments sparked a controversy in the country and problem for his party BJP, forcing him to withdraw it. On the Delhi gang rape of December 16, Scindia said a commission has been formed, it will table it recommendation within fixed time-frame and a final decision will be taken as per its recommendation.
