UDHAGAMANDALAM: Nearly 130 passengers of Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) were stranded in the middle of forest area between Kallar and Hillgrove stations on Saturday, as the movement of the train came to a halt following falling of on the track due to heavy rains experienced on Friday night.
Rescue personnel rushed to the spot and were engaged in clearing the boulders and soil.
Meanwhile, road traffic was totally paralysed for three hours from 5am on Friday between Kallar and Barliar, as some tress and an electric post fell across the road, due to the rains.
Similarly, vehicular traffic was disrupted for one hour on Udhagamandalam-Coonoor Road, following landslide near Wellington.
The affected areas experienced heavy rains on Friday night, measuring 13cm, official sources said.
